After a lay-off a year ago, I was wounded, particularly as I always felt it was personal. Its funny how every time the company announces its getting focused on a technology space, like security or collaboration, it pushes out those that have a wealth of experience in those areas because they turn 50 and are higher paid through many years of service. I say this because this year my husband, a collaboration specialist, received his marching orders after almost 20 years and one 50th birthday.I will always love the company, although its because I was there much earlier, before innovation was replaced by acquisition and increased profits through cost(people)cutting. I knew the author of this blog "back in the day". It's comforting to know that in some way we contributed to the company during its heyday, had some great times, and after being displaced, were able to keep moving ahead.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-474378832635022295.post-18001041020250234492014-10-17T21:01:38.463-07:002014-10-17T21:01:38.463-07:00Very good article. As an employee got impacted this past month, although only worked 19 months for Cisco San Jose, i already experienced the things i had never experienced before. The manager hired me got laid off last year, his successor manager made one third of the team quit by exercising an unique management style, then laid off half of the remaining team. Anyone working on a project will be victim of office politics. DE and DT will be placed into arena to attack each other, no one cares about quality of the product, the only thing matters is the total number of bugs they agreed upon.<br />Ideas are forbidden in office they simply don't want any distraction or invention.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
